BOYD LUWATE (Loo-WAH-tay)

Meet Boyd. His world is of smiles and laughter. He has a curious joy that propels him into a world that desperately needs his light. After building our house in Wadupe, Boyd would often wander his way down our path and spend the day chatting to us in his native language, as if we understood each word. This four year old boy brings me joy each time I see his smiling face running to greet us. Boyd loves to play. His favorite games are being pushed in the wheelbarrow, climbing trees, and mimicking every word we say. His favorite American phrase is, “What’s up, dawg?” Which, he says with a giggling smile.
Boyd has bad teeth because he eats sugar cane throughout the day in order to have enough energy. But, he is a tough kid, and rarely loses his smile. His laughter rings over the tall grass as he flies on the swing we built in a large mango tree near our house. What a joyful child. What a child to learn from.
Boyd has a baby brother and two older sisters called Monday and Sunday. Monday and Sunday often pass by our house on their way to get water and try their hand at juggling rocks and speaking English. Boyd will soon be going to school. I look forward to watching this smiling child grow into a healthy young boy.
Please pray for the future of Boyd. Pray that nothing will take his joy, nothing will quiet his laughter, and nothing will erase his smile. This world needs him.
